Real Madrid are in need of a striker. Karim Benzema remains one of the best in the world on his day but at 35 years of age, he is not a long-term answer in the position. The Frenchman has had his struggles with injuries as well. On the other hand, the club do not have any real cover for him. Mariano Diaz is not a big part of first-team plans at the moment and is expected to leave in the summer. And at 18, Alvaro might not be ready yet for a prominent role in the spotlight.

As a result, the club could definitely do with another striker in the summer. And it looks like an Argentine World Cup winner has caught their attention.

The player in question is Julian Alvarez of Manchester City. But Real Madrid could end up facing tough competition for the Argentine international.

As reported by Fichajes, the two big European teams who want to sign Alvarez are Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Alvarez is a huge talent without a shadow of a doubt and he has done a good job at Manchester City as well, in the chances that he has been given. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 14 goals and provided 4 assists in 38 appearances and 1866 minutes of football this season.

Alvarez has struggled to get ahead of Erling Haaland in the pecking order though, as any other striker in the world probably would at this point of time. As a result, the Argentine has been stuck playing a role off the bench.

He has done well in that. But till now, he has made just seven starts in the Premier League and it is believed that he wants to have a bigger role at Manchester City. If they cannot offer that, then a move away might be possible.
