Real Madrid are flying high at the moment. A 4-0 win over Barcelona sent them into the final of the Copa del Rey. On the other hand, 2-0 win over Chelsea in midweek meant that they have one foot in the Champions League semi finals. And while the La Liga title race might be as good as over, a double is still on for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
That is a remarkable achievement when you consider their lack of depth in several positions and the number of injuries that they have had to deal with. The players as well as the coaching staff deserve the world of credit.
It will be important for the club to strengthen their ranks in the summer while holding onto their important players as well. One who falls under that category is Marco Asensio and there seems to be a positive update regarding his future.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano (via Tribuna), Real Madrid are very happy with Asensio’s impact and have offered him a new contract.
Real Madrid fans should be happy with Fabrizio’s update on Asensio
At the start of the season, it had looked like Asensio was destined to leave the club. He was barely featuring off the bench at that point of time.
The Spaniard has certainly played his way into Ancelotti’s plans though, proving himself as a reliable impact substitute who makes starts occasionally as well. He has been consistently producing both goals and assists.
Asensio’s current deal with Real Madrid runs out at the end of this season. And letting him walk out as a free agent would be a mistake for sure. Not only is he still contributing regularly for Los Blancos but they might have a tough time finding someone who can play that role. Thus, the best case scenario would be the Spaniard staying on.
