Real Madrid got a 2-0 win over Cadiz this weekend to get ready for their upcoming trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Marco Asensio and Nacho Fernandez were on the scoresheet for Los Blancos on the day, while Thibaut Courtois would have been happy to keep another clean sheet.

The win is not expected to have much of an effect on the La Liga title race though. At the end of the day, Barcelona just seem to be too far ahead.

Barcelona are going through a rough patch of form at the moment and dropped points this weekend as well. But still, they are eleven points ahead of their eternal rivals with just nine league games left to be played.

Courtois acknowledged that it was Real Madrid’s fault that they had fallen so far behind in the title race but at the same time, they pointed out the difference in schedules of the teams. As reported by MARCA, the Belgian goalkeeper said on Movistar +:

"“Being so far away is our fault. Against Villarreal and other games we could win and we didn’t. We are in the final of the Copa del Rey and the quarterfinals of the Champions League, the other two teams do not have this thing to play every three days.”"

Of course, many Barcelona fans could read that as a dig at the fact that the Catalan giants are no longer in the Champions League or the Copa del Rey.

They were knocked out from the group stage of the competition for the second year running. They made a quick exit from the UEFA Europa League as well. And it had looked like they were on their way to the Copa del Rey final before surprisingly losing 4-0 against Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-finals.

The fact of the matter is that Real Madrid have had to go through a much tougher schedule and are still doing so. They also do not have a lot of depth and have faced multiple injury issues. Thus, the club deserve a lot of credit for their performance this season till now even though they have had to face a lot of criticism.
