Real Madrid have done a wonderful job this season, when you consider the lack of depth in the squad and the number of injuries that they have had to deal with. Los Blancos are in the Copa del Rey final and have one foot in the UEFA Champions League semi finals, after getting a 2-0 win over Chelsea in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
A number of players deserve credit for stepping up this season. One name which has to be near the top of that list is that of Federico Valverde.
The Uruguayan international has taken his game to the next level this season, producing the goods, whether he is played as a winger or as a midfielder. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Valverde has scored 12 goals and provided 5 assists in 46 appearances this season till now.
It is safe to say that he has come a long way, having contributed just one goal and a couple of assists in the previous campaign. Unfortunately for Valverde though, it looks like he could be handed a potential suspension in the near future.
Real Madrid star could be suspended for 12 games
As reported by GOAL, Valverde could be suspended for anywhere from four to 12 games for allegedly punching Alex Baena after Real Madrid’s game against Villarreal on Sunday, April 9.
It remains to be seen what happens with the situation involving Valverde. Hopefully, the matter will be investigated thoroughly and the right decision will be taken at the end of it, whatever that may be.
For the moment, Valverde remains a key part of this Real Madrid starting XI and has established himself as somewhat of an undroppable with his performances this season. And he is expected to be a big part of the club’s future as well, as he is still just 24 years of age.
