Real Madrid need to make additions all over the pitch, but one particular area of need might be right-back. Dani Carvajal is no longer the player that he was in his prime. On the other hand, the likes of Lucas Vazquez, Nacho Fernandez and Alvaro Odriozola are potential options as well but they are not long-term solutions either.
As a result, Real Madrid could do with another right-back. Rumours have suggested that Reece James of Chelsea is their number one target in that position.
It will not be easy to sign James though. It was not too long ago that he signed a long-term extension with Chelsea. And he is viewed by many as a future captain of the club as well. In the scenario that Real Madrid are unable to sign him, they do appear to have alternative targets as well.
Real Madrid interested in signing Liverpool defender
Of course, Alexander-Arnold has been a key player of this Liverpool team during the Jurgen Klopp era. Questions have been asked about the defensive side of his game for a long time though. And this season, he has struggled going forward as well, and it has been arguably the most unproductive campaign of his career.
At the same time, Alexander-Arnold is still just 24 years of age and has plenty of time to improve. And there is no denying that going forward, he is arguably the best full-back in the game.
On the other hand, Frimpong has enjoyed a meteoric rise. He first made his mark in the senior level for Celtic, before moving to Bayer Leverkusen. There, he has established himself as one of the best young talents in the Bundesliga. Similar to Alexander-Arnold, he is fantastic going forward as well but there are question marks about the defensive side of his game.
Judging by the players being linked, it looks like Real Madrid are in search of an attacking right-back. James would be the best fit, as he is very good defensively as well.
