Real Madrid player explains Cristiano Ronaldo celebration vs Chelsea
It was a night to remember for Rodrygo as he scored both of Real Madrid’s goals in a 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to go through into the semi-finals of the Champions League. The Brazilian has been criticised in recent times for his lack of end product in front of goal lately, but he showed what he is capable of on the big night.
Rodrygo has taken a major step in the right direction in terms of his development this season. And while he cannot be called a nailed on starter just yet, he is certainly knocking on the door. The brace against Chelsea would not have hurt his chances in the future.
Rodrygo’s celebration on the night caught the eye as well. The Brazilian winger celebration in Cristiano Ronaldo fashion against the Blues after scoring.
It looks like it was a matter of adjustment on the part of Rodrygo due to a knee issue though, and he ended up copying his idol instead. As reported by Evening Standard, he told reporters:
"“When I scored, my immediate reaction was to think about doing one of those knee slides but I’ve got a slightly tender knee when I flex.“So it popped into my mind to copy my idol, Cristiano, and copy what he does.”"

The win against Chelsea was somewhat expected. The Blues have been in terrible form this season and sit at 11th in the Premier League. And with their elimination from the Champions League, they now have pretty much nothing left to play for this season except for pride. Let’s see how the rest of their campaign turns out.
It is the opposite for Real Madrid. While the La Liga title race seems as good as over, they are in the Copa del Rey final and in the Champions League final.
In the Copa del Rey final, they will be taking on Osasuna. And they wait to final out their next opponents in the Champions League. It will be either Manchester City or Bayern Munich.
