The topic of contract renewals has been discussed heavily when it comes to Real Madrid. Los Blancos have a number of important players whose current deals are expiring this summer. And the club must make sure that the right players remain at Santiago Bernabeu beyond the ongoing campaign.
All signs point toward Toni Kroos continuing at Real Madrid for another year. Los Blancos are expected to hand new deals to Luka Modric and Karim Benzema as well, in order to keep the veteran trio at the club.
However, the future of one veteran in particular is up in the air. And there is not much clarity as to whether he will continue on with Real Madrid next season or not.
That is none other than Nacho Fernandez. But it looks like the Spaniard has an offer on the table from Real Madrid to extend. As reported by Cadena SER, Anton Meana said about the situation:
"“Nacho Fernández has on the table a renewal offer from Real Madrid that does not expire.”"
Real Madrid defender has been offered new contract
It looks like ball is now in Nacho’s court over whether or not he’d like to extend his deal with Real Madrid. The club seem to have offered the Spaniard an extension.
Nacho is rarely in the starting XI for the biggest matches, but has proven time and again his importance to this team. At 33 years of age, could he be looking for some regular football before hanging up his boots?
Earlier this season, Nacho was definitively near the bottom of the defensive pecking order. However, due to injuries to others and his own consistent performances all across the backline, the Spaniard has been getting consistent minutes as of late and has proven that his versatility can be useful to a team lacking in depth.
Nacho has spent his entire career at Real Madrid till now, coming through the youth ranks to establish himself in the senior team. He is a true one club man. Hopefully that will remain the case beyond this season.
