Despite all the criticism that Real Madrid have received this season, they are finishing the season strong. They are in the Copa del Rey final, where they will be taking on Osasuna. They are also in the Champions League semi finals, where they will be facing Manchester City. Thus, while the La Liga title race might be as good as over, a double is still on for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
It is a repeat of last season’s Champions League semi finals, where for 180 minutes, it had looked like Manchester City where on their way to the final. But Rodrygo scored in the 90th and the 91st minute of the game to take it to extra-time, where Karim Benzema scored the winner.
It will be interesting to see how this season’s tie plays out. But in the eyes of Arsene Wenger, Manchester City appear to be favourites.
As reported by AS, Wenger said while speaking on beIN Sports:
"“I would say that at this moment I would give Milan and City a small advantage due to their defensive stability. Maybe Real Madrid is a little more vulnerable defensively.”"
Real Madrid fans won’t be happy with Wenger’s comments
Wenger is one of the greatest managers in football history. The job that he did at Arsenal was somewhat underrated, when you see so many Premier League giants struggling to nail down a top four spot these days.
It remains to be seen whether his comments on Real Madrid turn out to be accurate or not. While there had been big question marks over their defence early on in the campaign, they have improved significantly in that regard as the season has progressed.
They did not concede a single goal against Chelsea over the two legs and recently kept a clean sheet against Barcelona as well. But at the same time, Manchester City are a very good team as well, and this time around they have Erling Haaland to rely on. Thus, this is looking like a very tight fixture on paper.
