Real Madrid and Manchester City are set to meet each other in the Champions League semi-finals. Los Blancos got the better of Chelsea, while the Citizens got past Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. There is certainly some history between the two teams. They met in the same stage of the competition, in what was one of the best knockout ties in football history.

For 180 minutes, it had looked like Manchester City were on their way to the final. But then Rodrygo scored in the 90th and 91st minute of the second leg to take the tie to extra-time, where Karim Benzema scored the winner.

Neither set of fans or players would have forgotten that game. But for completely different reasons.

For Manchester City, there will surely be the motivation of putting things right this time around. As reported by MARCA, Bernardo Silva said while speaking on Futbol en Movistar Plus+:

"“There is a spirit of revenge with Real Madrid because last year was very hard; but what there is is a lot of desire to be in this final and win this title that would be the first time in history for Manchester City.”"

Silva has had an up and down campaign with Manchester City this time around. But he certainly played his part in them reaching the Champions League semi-finals, as he found the back of the net against Bayern Munich in the quarter-final tie.

Interestingly, Silva is a player who has been linked with a possible move to Real Madrid in the summer in recent months. It remains to be seen if the rumours lead anywhere.

For now, he is expected to be doing his best to knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League. And this semi-final tie promises to be a tight one, maybe even closer than the one from last season on paper.

Of course, Manchester City’s biggest advantage this season has been the presence of Erling Haaland, who has been pretty much unstoppable in front of goal. Let’s see how the Real Madrid defenders deal with him.
