Manchester United failed to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League, after being knocked out of the competition by Sevilla. They lost the second leg 3-0, to lose 5-2 on aggregate. That is not what the Red Devils would have expected, especially with their opposition sitting 13th in the La Liga table. Yet, some of Casemiro’s recent comments would have delighted the Real Madrid fans.
Casemiro is a Real Madrid legend, who spent a long time at Santiago Bernabeu, winning a lot of trophies during that time including five Champions League titles. In the summer, he would leave almost out of the blue though, joining Manchester United.
Casemiro has been a big success story at Manchester United. The Brazilian midfielder has been key to the improvement that the club have made under the management of Erik ten Hag, since his arrival in the summer.
The Red Devils ended their long wait for a trophy this season, by winning the League Cup. They look set to finish in the top four of the Premier League as well and are also in the FA Cup semi-finals. Considering where they were last season, that is incredible progress.
Real Madrid fans will be happy with Casemiro’s comments
Sevilla are the record holders of the Europa League, having won it six times. As a result, Casemiro was asked if he thought that they were Real Madrid’s Champions League equivalent in the competition.
As reported by GOAL, Casemiro said:
"“They still have to win eight titles more to reach Real Madrid.”"
Of course, Real Madrid have won the Champions League on fourteen occasions. And they are searching for their fifteenth title this time around. Los Blancos will be taking on Manchester City in the semi-final of the competition.
It is going to be a very tight tie for sure. And might very well be the biggest test that Real Madrid face this season. In the other semi-final, Inter Milan will take on city rivals, AC Milan.
