It was a typical performance from Real Madrid, when it comes to the league. The club’s La Liga hopes are as good as over and it is starting to reflect on their displays as well. Valentin Castellanos scored a remarkable four goals against Los Blancos as Girona got themselves an unexpected and heavy 4-2 win.

It is starting to feel like this team just cannot motivate themselves to perform at the same level in the league, which they do in cup competitions and especially the Champions League. It is somewhat understandable with title hopes pretty much over but at the same time, more is to be expected every time you pull on a Real Madrid shirt.

Another problem that Carlo Ancelotti has to have a look at are the performances of Nacho Fernandez in recent times, when playing at left-back. He was bad against Villarreal in the 3-2 defeat at Santiago Bernabeu. And left a lot to be desired in the 4-2 loss against Girona as well.

Real Madrid fans on social media did not seem impressed with Nacho either. And the Spaniard was taken off in the 52nd minute of the game.

Nacho has been one of Real Madrid’s better performers in recent times. But one thing that has become clear is that he shouldn’t be playing at left-back for the club. His weaknesses appear to be magnified in that position.

On the other hand, despite being a midfielder, Eduardo Camavinga has been superb when playing at left-back. And he should be the one starting there in future games with Ferland Mendy and David Alaba both out injured.

Of course, one must point out that Nacho was not the only one who struggled on the day. The likes of Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and Dani Carvajal had bad games too.
