Real Madrid are in clear need of some fresh faces in the summer. While Los Blancos’ campaign has turned out quite well and has the potential for a Champions League and Copa del Rey double. At the same time, one cannot deny though that they lack depth all over the pitch and could do with more options.

One position where they are in need of new signings is right-back. Dani Carvajal is 31 years of age and no longer the player that he once was. On the other hand, none of Alvaro Odriozola, Lucas Vazquez and Nacho Fernandez are long-term solutions there either.

But in one of the most unexpected stories of the season, Emerson Royal was recently linked with a move to Real Madrid. Despite the fact that he has struggled to nail down a spot in the Tottenham Hotspur starting XI and is considered by many of their fans as a bad signing on the part of the club.

But his father, who also works as his agent, claimed that there is a possibility that Emerson could leave Tottenham Hotspur. And he also thought that he fits in at a club like Real Madrid.

As reported by talkSPORT, as quoted on the Charla Podcast, Emerson Zulu said:

"“There is a great possibility that Emerson will leave Tottenham.“We believe it’s time for him to take a bigger leap and to go to a team that fights for titles. I think he fits a giant like Real Madrid.”"

But the Tottenham Hotspur defender has since responded to the comments by saying:

"“Although he is entitled to his own opinion, I have never spoken to him about it and I have always made it clear that I am happy at Tottenham.“As a professional athlete, I am proud to represent the team that believed in me and gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills.”"

Emerson joined Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona. Thus, he has past experience of playing in La Liga. While he did not feature much for the Catalan giants, he did play quite a bit of football for Real Betis.

At the end of the day, it is hard to see the 24-year-old end up at Real Madrid any time soon, based on his current form. Players can turn their careers around though. Just look at Dani Ceballos and Marco Asensio for example. Thus, nothing can ever be ruled out. But right now, a move to Santiago Bernabeu just does not seem like a possibility for Emerson.
