Real Madrid do not have much depth at this point of time. And yet, there are some players who could be on their way out in the summer transfer window. That is expected to reduce options further. Thus, things could get interesting and it remains to be seen who stays on at Santiago Bernabeu and who leaves, after the ongoing campaign.
One player whose future seems to be in doubt is Andriy Lunin. The goalkeeper is firmly behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order right now, and has not really made most of the chances that he has received this season.
Lunin was in goal in Real Madrid’s recent defeat at the hands of Girona. The opposition had five shots on goal and ended up scoring with four of them. Of course, it must be pointed out that the defence on the night was not good either, with Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez, Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao, all struggling.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Lunin ends his contract with Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 and could leave this summer. He was about to do it this past year, but decided to stay.
Real Madrid player could leave in the summer window
Lunin has been very highly rated at Real Madrid for a long time, having arrived in 2018. He has never really gotten consistent minutes for Los Blancos though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 17 appearances for the club till now.
At 24 years of age, he needs to be playing more regularly though. And thus, a move away in the summer makes sense.
There is not expected to be any lack of interest in Lunin’s signature. On the other hand, if was to indeed leave, then Real Madrid would need to bring in someone to replace him or promote someone to second-choice goalkeeper from within the ranks.
