Real Madrid were handed some bad news recently as it looks like Luka Modric has picked up an injury and his participation in the upcoming Copa del Rey final as well as the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final tie against Manchester City is in doubt. It goes without saying that that is a blow for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who could be without one of their best and most experienced players in important games.

On the other hand, there seems to be much more positive news regarding the situation of another player. That is David Alaba, who had suffered an injury in the second leg of the club’s Champions League tie against Chelsea.

Alaba was substituted at the break and naturally, that raised questions about his availability for the upcoming games. But it looks like the Austrian is expected to recover in time.

As reported by MARCA, Real Madrid’s coaching staff and medical services breathe a sigh of relief with the evolution of Alaba. His presence in the Copa del Rey final and, above all, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Manchester City is, today, practically certain.

If things go according to plan then Alaba is expected to be available for the Copa del Rey final as well as the first leg against Manchester City. That is a major boost because of more than one reason.

Firstly, Eder Militao is set to miss the first leg against Manchester City through suspension, which means that the club will need the presence of someone like Alaba even more. Secondly, the Austrian’s experience could be vital in big games, if Modric does end up missing out.

All things considered, the fitness update surrounding Alaba is very positive. And let’s just hope that that remains the case.
