Barcelona have outperformed Real Madrid in the league this season and seem well on their way to a La Liga title. On the other hand, Los Blancos have been the much better team in cup competitions. They are in the final of the Copa del Rey and in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.

Thus, it is an interesting situation in Spanish football for sure. And after quite a few years, it looks like there is genuine competition between the two teams once again.

Amidst all this, one Barcelona player who grabbed a lot of headlines recently is Lamine Yamal. He was brought off the bench by Xavi in their recent match against Real Betis and in the process, he became the youngest player to debut for the Catalan club in history.

Interestingly, he was immediately linked with a potential move to Real Madrid in the future. But it looks like that is not on the cards for Yamal.

As reported by MARCA, Yamal has already said yes to Barcelona to renew his contract. There had been a lot of speculation about the option of signing for Real Madrid, but it will not be the case since he wants to continue at the Camp Nou.

Yamal is still just 15 years of age and as a result, has not been able to sign a professional contract yet. The idea appears to be to sign his deal with Barcelona in the summer, with him turning 16 on July 13 of this year.

Of course, it makes sense for Yamal to stay on at Barcelona. The club have a reputation for giving chances to their youth players at the senior level. For him, leaving Camp Nou at this stage of his career would be an unnecessary risk.
