As Real Madrid suffered another defeat in La Liga, this time at the hands of Real Sociedad, discussions continued surrounding the future of Carlo Ancelotti. The club could soon find themselves third in the table and it is quite clear that they have missed the mark in league competition this season.

The good news is that they are still in the running for a Champions League and Copa del Rey double. But if they fail to deliver that, there will be big question marks over the future of Ancelotti.

It is true that Ancelotti has not been dealt the best hand. The club had a clear lack of depth from the very beginning and on top of that, they have had to deal with a series of injuries as well. But when things go wrong, it is often the manager that is shown the exit door. That is just the nature of modern football.

On the other hand, Ancelotti has been linked with the Brazil national team job as well. Thus, all things considered, Real Madrid should keep an eye out on potential replacements for the manager.

As reported by Sport Bild, Real Madrid has Xabi Alonso on the list for Ancelotti’s successor. For Florentino Perez, the Spaniard is the ideal solution.

Of course, Alonso had a very successful playing career at Real Madrid. And he has coached the club at the youth level as well.

Alonso is currently the manager of Bayer Leverkusen and he has done an incredible job since joining the Bundesliga side. It had looked like they were going to be in a relegation struggle but the Spaniard has guided them to 6th in the table, and they are in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals as well, where they will face Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma side.
