Real Madrid might still be in the running for a Champions League and Copa del Rey double, but their performances in La Liga in recent times have been a cause for concern. The club have been incredibly inconsistent. For the first several months, it had looked like Los Blancos were going to run away with the league title race. Instead, they now find themselves sitting at third, behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Of course, they have the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna and the UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Manchester City coming up. And those are their most important games remaining in this campaign.

In the long-term, they need to have a look at their La Liga form as well though. For some time, it has looked like this team has not been motivated enough to step up in the league.

As reported by El Debate, Carlo Ancelotti has criticised his players for the disconnection and lack of attitude at times. He also makes that self-criticism that is attributed to him.

It is clear that things need to improve in the future when it comes to performances and results in the league. It is understandable to not win every season, but the gap between Barcelona and Real Madrid has been a bitter pill to swallow for many fans.

Of course, Real Madrid have the chance to transform this into a very successful season, if they can bring home some silverware. Of course, winning the Champions League will be the top priority, as is the case every season. But getting over the line in the Copa del Rey is important as well, as it is a competition the club have not won often in recent years.

Let’s see how things play out. One can only hope that Real Madrid are on top form for the rest of the season.
