Real Madrid have been linked with a long list of players in recent times and are even rumoured to be closing in on the signing of Jude Bellingham. This squad needs reinforcements all over the pitch though, as they simply do not have enough depth to perform at their best throughout the course of a long campaign, which was one of the biggest reasons behind their struggles in La Liga this season.

As a result, fans will be hoping that Real Madrid make plenty of signings in the summer. And one player that they have been linked with in recent times is Rafael Leao.

The Portuguese international is one of the most exciting players in world football right now. He played a huge role in AC Milan’s Serie A win last season, after more than a decade, as well as their run to the Champions League semi-finals this time around.

Thus, it is not hard to see why Real Madrid were linked with him. But there is some bad news for Los Blancos if they indeed had plans to sign Leao in the future.

As reported by The Athletic, Leao has signed a new five-year contract with AC Milan. The new deal runs until June 2028.

Thus, it looks like Leao is set to remain at AC Milan for the foreseeable future. He is the face of the club and they have certainly shown progress in recent years, both in domestic competitions and Europe.

Even if AC Milan are open to the prospect of letting Leao leave in the future, the new deal certainly raises his transfer value. His previous contract ran until the summer of 2024 and would have allowed clubs the opportunity to negotiate a bargain fee in the upcoming window. That won’t be the case now.
