Marco Asensio has been in very good form in recent times. He is having one of his best seasons for Real Madrid, despite being mostly used as an impact substitute by Carlo Ancelotti. And as a result, the Spanish international has been successful in establishing himself as an important part of the team.

Earlier on in the campaign, it had looked like Asensio was not going to feature much this season. But the Spaniard deserves immense credit for playing his way into Ancelotti’s plans and right now, he is someone who can make an impact on the result of a match, whether as a starter or after coming on as a substitute.

Asensio’s current deal runs out in the summer though. And as a result, it is important that the club agree an extension with him.

At the same time though, the club must be prepared for the scenario that Asensio leaves. And in that case, they must have alternative targets in their sights.

Real Madrid eye Spanish international as Asensio’s replacement

As reported by AS, Real Madrid view Dani Olmo as a reasonable alternative if Asensio ends up leaving by not renewing his contract.

Olmo currently plays for RB Leipzig. He has been a key part of the Bundesliga team for quite some time now. But his current contract is set to run out in the summer of 2024.

Thus, it is possible that Olmo could be available for a transfer fee between €30 million and €40 million this summer. Now, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid make a move or not.

Other clubs like Bayern Munich and Barcelona are believed to be interested in signing Olmo as well. On the other hand, the best case scenario for Real Madrid would be Asensio signing an extension and staying on at the club.
