Manchester City and Real Madrid are currently competing to get to the final of the UEFA Champions League. The first leg of their semi-final tie, away at Santiago Bernabeu, ended 1-1. Thus, both teams have it all to play for in the second leg. On the other hand, they might be competing for the signature of one of the best defenders in world football as well.

Josko Gvardiol was arguably the best defender in the recent World Cup, as Croatia finished third in the competition. And he has been a star performer for RB Leipzig as well.

Real Madrid will know that well, having come up against the Bundesliga side in the Champions League group stages this season. They even suffered a defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig away in Germany. Gvardiol was on the scoresheet on that night.

Thus, it was no surprise that Real Madrid were being linked with a move for Gvardiol. But it is quite clear that they are not the only ones chasing the signature of the Croatian defender.

Manchester City willing to make €100 million transfer bid for Real Madrid target

As reported by Fichajes, Manchester City would be willing to pay the €100 million that RB Leipzig asks for letting Gvardiol leave.

Someone like Gvardiol could be an excellent long-term signing for Real Madrid. Especially since both Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are slowly starting to get up there in terms of age.

At the same time, it will be difficult to sign Gvardiol without doubt. There is plenty of interest in his signature. On the other hand, Real Madrid are believed to be closing in on a blockbuster transfer for Jude Bellingham, that is expected to see them shell out north of €120 million. So, it is hard to imagine Los Blancos make another big money move in the same window.
