Real Madrid’s hopes in La Liga are as good as over and the best they can hope from here is finishing second, behind Barcelona. Their 1-0 win over Getafe at the weekend was a boost in that regard. A goal from Marco Asensio in the 70th minute of the game proved to be the winner and sealed the three points for Los Blancos.

But now, it appears that there is some bad news for Real Madrid. Los Blancos could face a possible points deduction, due to an incident regarding the substitutions on the day.

As reported by SPORT, Asensio initially left the pitch replaced by Alvaro Odriozola. And in fact went outside the limits of the regulation field. However, Eduardo Camavinga’s injury pushed back Carlo Ancelotti, who opted to return the Spaniard to the field so that it was the French international who left for the full-back.

Asensio should have already been considered a substituted player because he had left the field, and Camavinga, injured, should have stayed on the field or left Real Madrid with ten men. That change was the fifth and final one for Ancelotti.

It remains to be seen how things will play out. For anything to happen, Getafe or any other club would have to lodge a complaint before Tuesday.

If that is done, and it proves to be successful, then Real Madrid would end up losing the match by a 0-3 scoreline and would also be handed an economic fine of about €10,000.

Of course, nothing seems to have happened regarding the matter till now and fans will be hoping that it remains that way. If Real Madrid indeed end up losing the three points then it would see them fall a point behind Atletico Madrid and slip down to third spot.
