Real Madrid were completely outclassed by Manchester City, as they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League following a 4-0 defeat in the second leg of their semi-final tie. Most people had gone into this game expecting a close contest but it turned out to be completely one-sided instead.

Bernardo Silva scored a brace in the first half and Manchester City found the back of the net on two occasions in the second half as well. In fact, Real Madrid had Thibaut Courtois to thank for the scoreline not being more one-sided than it already was.

A number of mistakes were made on the day. And one of them was from Carlo Ancelotti, as the Italian got things wrong on this occasion.

Antonio Rudiger was one of the best players on the pitch in the first leg and shut down Erling Haaland. But on this occasion, he was dropped and Eder Militao started instead. It was clearly a mistake and Real Madrid paid for it.

Militao might very well be the best defender that Real Madrid have, but on this occasion, he simply did not appear to be up to the task. It was one of his worst performances in recent memory and one has to wonder if things would have been different if Rudiger started.

Of course, it would be wrong to point out Militao as the only one who struggled on the day. The entire team did. It is hard to think of a standout performance. The only one who can leave with his held high is Courtois. That tells you everything you need to know.

Thus, Real Madrid will end the campaign with just a Copa del Rey. While that might disappoint fans, the fact of the matter is that they could not have done much better with the lack of depth they have.
