Real Madrid were handed a massive blow by Manchester City, as they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the semi-finals. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw, suggesting that the second leg would be a close contest as well. It was anything but that though. Los Blancos were completely outplayed on the night.
Bernardo Silva scored a brace while Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez found the back of the net once each, to end Real Madrid’s hopes of 15th Champions League. Nobody would get passing grades in Carlo Ancelotti’s team other than Thibaut Courtois, based on their performance against Manchester City.
This tie also proved how far ahead Manchester City are in terms of squad depth. And it looks like one of their players has caught the eye of Real Madrid.
As reported by Fichajes, Real Madrid have set their sights on Alvarez. His transfer value is believed to be around €50 million.
Real Madrid interested in €50 million Manchester City player
Alvarez is a fantastic talent without doubt. While he might not be a regular starter for Manchester City, he has certainly shown flashes of brilliance during his time at the club.
On the other hand, Alvarez was exceptional in the World Cup, as Argentina won the competition for the third time in their history. Most fans believe that he deserves more playing time.
The problem is, Manchester City have Erling Haaland up front. As a result, playing time is expected to be limited for Alvarez moving forward as well. Could that open up the door to a possible transfer exit? Several clubs are believed to be interested.
Only time shall tell. But as of now, one would not expect Manchester City to let go of a talent like Alvarez. Especially after his short stint at the club till now.
