Real Madrid have signed quite a few veterans as free agents in recent times. David Alaba arrived in the summer of 2021 following a long run at Bayern Munich and Antonio Rudiger arrived last summer, having established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the world during his last 18 months at Chelsea.

This time around, they might have the chance to sign another veteran star on a free transfer. It has already been confirmed that Roberto Firmino will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

As reported by Fichajes, the Brazilian is looking for a new challenge. And Real Madrid does not forget about Firmino.

Firmino has been one of the most important parts of Liverpool’s legendary team under the management of Jurgen Klopp, which has restored the Reds near the top of the game once again. But now, the Brazilian is set to leave. A player of his quality and experience does not become available on a free transfer every day. So, Real Madrid should certainly keep an eye out on the situation.

Signing someone like Firmino would certainly fit into Real Madrid’s transfer policy. And it would solve a major problem for them as well.

The club do not have quality cover for Karim Benzema up top. And the Frenchman has struggled to remain fit for any considerable length of time. At this stage of his career, his minutes need to be managed carefully.

Someone like Firmino would be an excellent back up option for Benzema. One has to wonder though if he would be open to playing such a role. There are not expected to be any lack of offers for the Brazilian this summer though. Let’s see how things play out but hopefully Real Madrid will be in the race.
