Real Madrid were knocked out from the Champions League after losing 4-0 at the hands of Manchester City in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie. It was a result that showed the shortcomings of the club’s current squad. It is quite clear that they need strengthen in several positions across the pitch in the summer.
One area of weakness is right-back. Dani Carvajal is no longer the player that he was during his prime. His form has been a worry throughout the course of the campaign.
On the other hand, the club do not have any long-term successor to Carvajal. Nacho Fernandez and Lucas Vazquez are both older than him. Alvaro Odriozola has barely featured and is expected to be on his way out in the summer.
Amidst all this, it looks like the club have set their sights on one of their former players. As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Achraf Hakimi is the subject of Real Madrid’ interest. Los Blancos are keen on signing a right-back in the summer. And the Paris Saint-Germain star has emerged as a top target.
Real Madrid interested in PSG defender this summer
Hakimi came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid, spending over a decade at the club. But he never really got a proper chance in the first-team.
After finding success on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid made the confusing decision to let him go. He ended up signing for Inter Milan, won the league in Italy and then moved once again, this time to PSG.
Hakimi has been a success at PSG too. And it will be very difficult for Real Madrid to sign him from the French giants. Not only does he have a long-term contract but the two teams are not believed to have a great relationship.
