Real Madrid have had an up and down campaign to say the least. Winning the Copa del Rey was the unquestionable highlight. It is a competition that the club have struggled in in recent years. Of course, their performances in La Liga were a major disappointment to say the very least. And while reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League is commendable, the manner of the exit left a lot to be desired.
Real Madrid lost 4-0 in the second leg against Manchester City and 5-1 on aggregate. Not a result or performance that you expect from the 14-time champions.
One player who was on top form in the second leg was Thibaut Courtois. Without the Belgian goalkeeper between the posts, things could have ended much worse for Los Blancos.
It looks like the club will be looking to provide some cover to the Belgian next season. As reported by AS, Real Madrid wants a veteran goalkeeper to give relief to Courtois. Andriy Lunin does not play and wants to leave.
Real Madrid interested in signing goalkeeper this summer
Signing a veteran goalkeeper in the summer would make a lot of sense for Real Madrid. Someone who is proven and there will not be much risk to.
Courtois is the number one without any doubt. At the same time, he has dealt with some fitness issues this season and missed some games. Lunin has not been able to provide dependable cover on a few of those occasions.
There have also been rumours that Lunin could be on his way out in the summer, having not been able to nail down a spot in the first-team till now. Thus, Los Blancos could be in need of another goalkeeper anyway. Now, it remains to be seen who they end up trying to sign in that scenario.
