Real Madrid will need to improve their squad in the summer transfer window. Their one sided defeat against Manchester City showed that this squad is not capable of competing against Europe’s best. In the past, they have relied on moments of magic and individual brilliance, but that cannot work every time.

Thus, Real Madrid fans will be hoping that the club bring in reinforcements in multiple positions across the pitch in the summer. One area where they are particularly weak at the moment is full-back.

At right-back, Dani Carvajal looks nowhere near his best. And there is no long-term successor for him either. On the other hand, at left-back, Ferland Mendy has struggled with both form and fitness for some time. Rumours have suggested that Los Blancos are open to the idea of him leaving in the summer for the right offer.

Thus, Real Madrid could do with another option in that area of the pitch. And there is one player who could solve their issues on both flanks.

Real Madrid join Barcelona and Arsenal in race to sign Manchester City player

As reported by Sport1 (via GOAL), Real Madrid have joined Barcelona and Arsenal in the race for Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo was considered one of the best full-backs in the world not too long ago. But surprisingly, his fortunes have taken a turn after the World Cup. He saw his playing time decreased in Pep Guardiola’s team and was sent out on loan to Bayern Munich.

Cancelo’s performances at Bayern Munich have certainly improved over time. But he is still expected to leave in the summer, with the option to buy believed to be set at €70 million. As a result, the Portuguese international might be available in the summer transfer window and it appears that Real Madrid are keeping an eye on the situation.
