Unexpected striker being linked with Real Madrid return
If there is one thing we have learned about Real Madrid this season, it is that the club massively lacks quality depth up front. Karim Benzema has done a great for the club since he signed in 2009 but Father Time is starting to catch up with him. The Frenchman, now 35, has been Los Blancos’ main number 9 all season and has had an up and down campaign to say the least.
His productivity has dropped off quite a bit this season. He has still been scoring goals, but not at the rate he was in the previous campaign. And his performances have certainly not been as great.
This season Benzema’s kryptonite has been fitness issues. The Frenchman has missed a number of games with injuries and when he is not playing, Real Madrid’s forward line lacks massively. The club lack a clinical striker upfront when he is absent and need to find a solution.
As reported by Relevo, Real Madrid want Joselu. The Spaniard’s great season has ended up convincing the club’s leaders.
Unexpected striker being linked with Real Madrid return
Espanyol’s Joselu is being linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu as a backup to Benzema for next season. The 33-year-old Spaniard played for Real Madrid for a few years in the past, and scored twice in two appearances for the senior team. He never really got a proper chance though.
Joselu has been in fantastic form, despite of Espanyol trying to avoid relegation, According to Transfermarkt, the Spaniard has scored 16 goals and provided 4 assists in 36 appearances this season.
His good club form this season has carried over to the national team as well, earning him his first international call up at 33 years of age. He netted twice on his debut against Norway.
It looks like Real Madrid view Joselu as an ideal back up option. A move will depend on Espanyol’s future in La Liga.
