Carlo Ancelotti looks set to continue as the manager of Real Madrid despite the club’s underwhelming campaign. Winning Copa del Rey was a major success, as it is a competition Los Blancos have failed to deliver in in recent years. But they failed spectacularly in their conquest to retain the La Liga title. With two games to go, even second spot is still in doubt. On the other hand, the Champions League elimination at the hands of Manchester City was a blow as well.

Overall, this season will not be seen as a success by the fans. But most people will recognise that Ancelotti was not dealt a great hand. This squad might have a lot of quality players, but they severely lack depth.

All signs point towards Ancelotti continuing in the Real Madrid hot seat. His contract runs out in the summer of 2024 though. And the club should keep an eye open for potential successor.

Xabi Alonso is someone who has been linked with the Real Madrid job, amid his impressive spell at Bayer Leverkusen. And there is some good news in that regard.

As reported by RMC Sport, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Alonso. But the desire of the Spaniard is to take over from Ancelotti at Real Madrid when the Italian will leave his post.

Alonso has spent time managing at youth level at Real Madrid and developmental level for Real Sociedad. Many had feared that his move to Bayer Leverkusen had come way too early but it has proven to be a grand success.

Alonso has guided them to sixth in the Bundesliga table, when it had looked like they would have a tough time avoiding relegation when the Spaniard arrived. They were also in the Europa League semi-final, but were knocked out by AS Roma.
