Real Madrid are heading for an important summer transfer window. The tie against Manchester City showed that they need to improve their squad if they are to keep up with Europe’s elite. And there has been some great news in that regard as it looks like Los Blancos are close to getting a deal over the line for Jude Bellingham.

The arrival of someone like Bellingham will certainly improve the squad and Real Madrid might have the best midfield in the world. On the other hand, they look set to lose one of their key forwards though.

As the season has progressed, Marco Asensio has grown in importance in Carlo Ancelotti’s team. His current deal runs out in the summer though.

And as reported by Relevo, Asensio will leave Real Madrid when the season ends. The Spaniard has made the decision to reject the renewal offer he has on the table and will sign for a new club in the coming weeks.

Even though he has mostly been used as an impact substitute, Asensio has arguably enjoyed his best season in a Real Madrid shirt this season. He has showed his ability to effect a game in the final third time after time, whether as a starter or off the bench.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Asensio has scored 12 goals and provided 8 assists in 50 appearances and 1964 minutes of football this season.

That is an impressive output and Real Madrid will struggle to find someone who can take up that role in the squad. If there is any chance of keeping him at Santiago Bernabeu beyond this season, they should try to make it happen. But it looks like Asensio is set to leave. There should not be any lack of interest in his signature.

Asensio was linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool last summer. And his performances this season should have only raised interest in signing him.
