Rumours broke out recently that Marco Asensio has decided to leave Real Madrid. His current deal runs out in the summer and it looks like he will not be renewing his contract, and will leave Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent. It goes without saying that that would be a blow for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

Asensio’s role in the team has grown as the season has progressed. He has proven himself to be a key player for Real Madrid, someone who can make a difference, whether as a starter or off the bench.

Despite not being a nailed on starter, Asensio has had his most productive season as a Real Madrid player this time around. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 12 goals and provided 8 assists in 50 appearances and 1964 minutes of football in this campaign till now.

Thus, it will be difficult to replace someone like Asensio, if he does indeed leave this summer. But it looks like Real Madrid already have a plan in place.

Real Madrid view Spaniard as Asensio replacement

As reported by AS, Real Madrid are preparing to fill the gap that Asensio will leave in the squad. They have outlined Brahim Diaz as his replacement.

Brahim has spent the previous three seasons on loan at AC Milan and he has certainly grown in leaps and bounds. The Spaniard has had a very impressive campaign this time around and has even been linked with moves to Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United as well as a permanent switch to the Rossoneri. At 23 years of age, he has plenty of room for improvement too.

It looks like he will remain at Real Madrid though and have a spot in the squad. In many ways, the Asensio role could be perfect for him and he would be like a new signing.
