Real Madrid need to bring in reinforcements in several positions across the pitch. One area in need of immediate strengthening is striker. Karim Benzema is the current Ballon d’Or holder but at the same time, he has not had a great campaign this time around, dealing with fitness issues throughout and failing to find a rhythm as a result of it.

At 35 years of age, Benzema’s minutes need to be managed if Real Madrid are to get the most out of him. But the club do not have any real back up in that position.

Whatever options they have is going to be reduced further in the summer, as Mariano Diaz is set to leave with his current deal running out. Thus, Real Madrid need to sign at least another striker this summer and it looks like they might be looking at a short-term solution rather than trying to find the long-term successor to Benzema.

As reported by Relevo, Joselu is closer than ever to returning to Real Madrid. The club’s leaders believe that his profile is perfect and, if nothing goes wrong, he will be one of the first signings.

Joselu is arguably coming off the best campaign of his career. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 17 goals and provided 4 assists in 37 appearances this season.

Unfortunately, that was not enough to save his side from relegation. Espanyol are confirmed to drop down to the second division, even with one game left to be played in La Liga this season.

Joselu is a player in top form though and recently made his debut for the Spanish national team as well. As a result, one would expect him to move and Real Madrid appears to be a possible destination. He has represented Los Blancos in the past.
