Rumours have suggested that Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund this summer. That is great news for Los Blancos without doubt. The 19-year-old is already amongst the best midfielders in the world and could be one of the faces of the team for the next decade-and-a-half to come.

At the same time, it would take a significant transfer fee to sign Bellingham. The recent rumours have suggested that the figure could be an initial transfer fee of around €100 million plus a further €50 million in add-ons.

That is expected to take a large chunk out of Real Madrid’s transfer budget for the summer. But the club need to make additions in several other positions across the pitch as well. Thus, they will need to be smart. And it looks like they are closing in on the signing of an in-form striker on loan.

As reported by MARCA, Real Madrid is about to close the loan signing of Joselu for one season. The striker would arrive on a loan deal thanks to a clause in his contract after the relegation of Espanyol from La Liga.

Joselu has been in superb form lately. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 17 goals and provided 4 assists in 38 appearances this season.

But even that was not enough to prevent Espanyol from getting relegated. Now, it looks like the striker is set to make a return to Real Madrid at 33 years of age, more than a decade after leaving the club.

Let’s see if it ends up happening or not. Signing someone like Joselu on loan could be a brilliant short-term solution to their issues though, and the likes of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe could be available in the summer of 2024.
