Even a week ago, the expectation was that Karim Benzema would continue at Real Madrid for another season before the club looked to find a long-term successor for the Frenchman in the summer of 2024. That has been thrown into doubt recently though, as it looks like the 35-year-old could make a Santiago Bernabeu exit at the end of this very campaign.
The rumours have of course come out of the blue. But it looks like Benzema has an offer on the table to make a move to the Saudi Pro League. Former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, joined Al-Nassr not too long ago, raising the profile of the competition immediately.
Now, could it be Benzema’s turn? It is certainly starting to look like that, and that will come as a worry for Real Madrid fans, as the club could be set to lose one of their most important players.
As reported by Foot Mercato, the offer sent by Al-Ittihad ended up convincing Benzema to leave Real Madrid this summer. The Frenchman has told the Spanish club in recent hours of his choice to accept the offer.
Benzema announces Real Madrid exit decision
Benzema has been a key part of this Real Madrid team for close to a decade-and-a-half. And he has been the face of the club since Ronaldo left for Juventus in the summer of 2018.
It had looked like Benzema was set to sign an extension with Real Madrid and stay on for another season. But now, it looks like the Ballon d’Or holder is on his way out of the club.
If Benzema does indeed leave the club then they will have to replace him with a world-class striker. They have been linked with the likes of Harry Kane, Dusan Vlahovic, Victor Osimhen and a few others in recent weeks. On the other hand, it is believed that Joselu will join Real Madrid on a loan.
