Real Madrid announce player’s contract has been terminated
This is certainly looking like a summer of change for Real Madrid. It is clear that they need to add to the squad. It has not been a great season by their standards. While Los Blancos might have won the Copa del Rey, they failed to defend their La Liga title and were knocked out from the Champions League semi-finals by Manchester City, 5-1 on aggregate.
Thus, changes are needed at Real Madrid and they have started before the season is over. It was already announced that Mariano Diaz and Marco Asensio would be leaving.
That was expected. But then the club dropped some news that nobody saw coming. Eden Hazard’s time at Real Madrid is set to come to an end as well.
As reported on the club’s official website, Real Madrid and Hazard have reached an agreement whereby the player is disassociated from the club as of June 30, 2023.
Real Madrid announce player’s contract has been terminated
Hazard was signed by Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 for a club record transfer fee from Chelsea. And after a legendary run in the Premier League, the Belgian was expected to come in and establish himself as the face of the club.
That was not to be. Hazard’s time at Real Madrid has been a nightmare to be very honest. He has dealt with one injury after another, never getting a run as a starter as a result. And right now, he is pretty much the last choice winger at the club.
Hazard was expected to see out the remaining year on his contract, but seems to have decided that this is the right time to leave, with no real first-team future. It remains to be seen what the future holds for him. There were rumours of retirement but it is possible that he could play in a league outside of Europe after this.
