Real Madrid fans have been shaken up with news of one exit after another over the past day or so. Of course, the big one is Karim Benzema, who will be bringing an end to his legendary run at the Santiago Bernabeu. The likes of Mariano Diaz and Eden Hazard are leaving as well, but that should not have a huge impact on the team. Another player on his way out is Marco Asensio, and that is a key departure though.
Asensio’s role in the team has grown as the season has progressed. In the second half of the campaign, he was one of Real Madrid’s most reliable source of goals.
As a result, his exit will leave a hole in the squad. And it is one that Real Madrid might have a tough time filling. It is hard to find proven impact substitutes.
On the other hand, it looks like the Spaniard’s next move is now set. As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain are set to complete the signing of Asensio. A verbal agreement is in place.
Real Madrid player will join PSG this summer confirmed
Asensio is a very good player without doubt. And it is hard not to feel that he never reached his true potential at Real Madrid.
This might be a great time for him to join PSG though. They are a club in transition. Lionel Messi is confirmed to be leaving. Neymar could join him out of the exit door as well.
Thus, Asensio should not have trouble nailing down a starting spot at PSG, if he can maintain the form that he has shown at Real Madrid this season. At 27 year of age, he is in the middle of his prime and might have a great run ahead of him in the French capital.
