Real Madrid’s biggest task this summer will be replacing Karim Benzema. The initial expectation was that the Frenchman would stay on at the club for another season. But pretty much out of the blue, the legend decided to bring an end to his run at Santiago Bernabeu and joined Al-Ittihad in a blockbuster move.

Of course, that leaves Real Madrid with the need to replace their number 9. Despite Benzema’s age and recent injury issues, he was the reigning Ballon d’Or holder and the club’s main man up top.

So, they will need a world-class striker to replace Benzema with. Most of the recent rumours have surrounded Harry Kane. But the club have alternative targets as well.

As reported by The Times, Chelsea are expecting to face competition from Real Madrid in their chase to sign Lautaro Martinez. Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be a long-time admirer of the Argentine and Inter Milan striker.

Lautaro is a very good striker without doubt. He had a bad World Cup campaign individually, even though Argentina won the competition.

He has done brilliantly to put that behind him though, and has been on top form for Inter Milan in the second half of the campaign, as they have been successful in reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League, where they will be taking on Manchester City.

Thus, it is not hard to understand why there is so much interest in the signature of the Argentine. At 25 years of age, he is yet to enter his prime either. Now, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid end up making a move for him or not.

Los Blancos’ top striker target is still believed to be Kane. It will not be straight forward to sign him from Tottenham Hotspur though.
