If there is one area where Real Madrid need to strengthen this summer, it is striker. Karim Benzema and Mariano Diaz have both headed for the exit door, meaning that the only recognised centre-forward in the squad is Alvaro, who is 18 years of age and has only played a handful of minutes at the senior level till now.

So, Real Madrid need to bring in two strikers this summer. And it looks like they are set to announce the arrival of one of them soon.

As reported by Relevo (via Football Espana), Real Madrid have finalised the signing of Joselu. He will join on a season-long loan deal from Espanyol.

Joselu recently scored the winner for Spain over Italy in the UEFA Nations League semi-final. They will be facing Croatia in the final next week.

Joselu might be 33 years of age, but he is playing the best football of his career right now. He scored 16 goals for Espanyol in La Liga in the recently-concluded season, but even that was not enough to stop them from being relegated.

Now, he looks set to make a return to Real Madrid on a loan deal. Interestingly, Joselu has spent time at Santiago Bernabeu in the past and made a couple of senior appearances for the club as well, but ultimately left after having failed to establish himself in the first-team.

Since then, he has gone on to have a very respectable career, having turned out for clubs like Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt, Newcastle United, Alaves, Espanyol and more. He has also scored thrice in three appearances for the Spanish national team, having only made his international debut at nearly 33 years of age. And while Joselu is not some who is expected to be the first-choice striker for Real Madrid, he can provide some excellent cover in the position.
