Real Madrid seem to be heading into a very important and exciting summer transfer window. The club have already confirmed the signings of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund and Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano. A loan deal for Joselu is believed to be close as well. And Brahim Diaz will be pretty much like a new arrival as well, having spent the previous three seasons at AC Milan.

More reinforcements are needed though, if Real Madrid are to compete with the truly elite teams in Europe like Manchester City. And one area that needs additions immediately is striker.

The initial expectation was that Real Madrid would try to sign Kylian Mbappe as a free agent next summer. But recent events might have changed their plans.

Karim Benzema left the club out of the blue at the end of last season. On the other hand, the Frenchman has let PSG know that he will sign an extension with them. That could lead to the Ligue 1 side trying to find him a new home this summer itself, rather than risking seeing him walk out as a free agent a year later.

Real Madrid eye Liverpool hero as Mbappe alternative

Of course, signing Mbappe will be no easy task. The club do need to bring in a world-class forward to replace Benzema though. So, they must have some alternative targets as well.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Real Madrid are interested in Roberto Firmino. They view him as an emergency option if they fail to land Mbappe.

Firmino is available as a free agent this summer after his contract with Liverpool ran out. Although he is 31 years of age, he is still capable of performing at a high level, and is someone who improves those around him. Thus, if he did arrive at Real Madrid, it could be very beneficial for Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo.
