Real Madrid might have already gotten deals done for Jude Bellingham, Fran Garcia and Joselu, but more signings are needed if they are to compete with the truly elite teams next season. The club are lacking in depth all over the pitch, and especially going forward. Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio are two key players who have left, as have Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz, reducing options further.
As things stand, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo are the only two reliable players that Real Madrid have in the forward department. Joselu might proved to be a smart signing as well, but it is hard to see him being the first choice number 9 for Los Blancos.
So, Real Madrid could do with more players in the final third of the pitch. But they have lost out on one of their targets to Chelsea.
Chelsea have recently announced the signing of Christopher Nkunku for a fee believed to be in the range of €60 million to €65 million, which could be a bit of a bargain when you consider the modern day transfer market. The deal appears to have been in place for a while though.
Chelsea announce signing of Real Madrid transfer target
As tweeted out by Jorge C. Picon, Nkunku was one of the most liked players at Real Madrid to strengthen the forward line. But they arrived late. Chelsea went ahead and closed the deal to sign the Frenchman in the first months of the season.
Nkunku is a superb talent without doubt. He topped the Bundesliga scoring charts last season despite missing several months of action due to injury.
During his time in Germany, he performed at every level and showed his quality against the biggest teams in Europe. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 70 goals and provided 56 assists in 172 appearances for RB Leipzig in total.
Thus, someone like Nkunku could have been a superb signing for Real Madrid. Unfortunately, they could not get a deal done. Let’s see how he does at Chelsea.
