Manchester United have been successful in signing some top players from Real Madrid in recent years. In the summer of 2021, they signed Raphael Varane. Last time around, they brought in Casemiro. Both have gone on to become integral parts of the Red Devils’ starting XI under the management of Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United still have room for improvement though. And could they try to sign a player from Real Madrid for the third summer transfer window in a row?

One player whose future might be in doubt is Aurelien Tchouameni. The Frenchman was signed just last summer from AS Monaco but failed to meet expectations in his first season with Real Madrid. And with Jude Bellingham joining this summer, he could find starts even more difficult to come by.

As reported by Metro, Rio Ferdinand said about the situation of Tchouameni when discussing potential Manchester United signings on Vibe with Five:

"‘In midfield, you know who I would go and get? I would go try get Tchouameni.‘He is going to be the one who doesn’t play, he is the odd man out at the minute. Massive improvement.’"

The situation of Tchouameni is certainly an interesting one. He did make a great start to life at Real Madrid and when the club let Casemiro go, he became a nailed on starter instantly.

His form would fade away as the season progressed though, especially after the World Cup. It is also worth mentioning that Tchouameni did miss a penalty kick in the final against Argentina, which might have had an impact on his performances moving forward as well.

Ultimately, he lost his status as a nailed on starter and found himself on the bench in most of the big games towards the end of the season. Now with Bellingham coming in and Eduardo Camavinga playing some incredible football in the second half of the campaign, Tchouameni might have slipped further down the pecking order.

There is no question about Tchouameni’s potential and he has shown flashes of brilliance in a Real Madrid shirt as well. But if a huge offer did come in from Manchester United or any other Premier League giant, the club might have to think about it.
