Carlo Ancelotti has done a very good job in his second stint as Real Madrid manager, win all three major competitions as well as the Club World Cup. The Italian is not viewed as the long-term solution in the Santiago Bernabeu hot seat though. On the other hand, he has been heavily linked with the Brazil national team job for months now, and those rumours simply have not gone away.

The expectation is that Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid next summer, when his contract runs out. And the club will have to find a replacement for him.

They have been linked with plenty of interesting names in the not too distant past, when Ancelotti’s position in the hot seat was looking shaky. And it looks like there might be one outstanding candidate.

As reported by BILD, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez sees Xabi Alonso as the next manager of the club.

Real Madrid legend could replace Ancelotti as manager

Alonso has managed in the youth levels for Real Madrid in the past and is currently the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, in what is his first managerial job at the top level. And he has been excellent till now.

When Alonso arrived at Bayer Leverkusen, they were in terrible form and it was looking like they would be trying to avoid relegation. Instead, they finished sixth in the Bundesliga and managed to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League as well.

Thus, it goes without saying that Alonso has been receiving a lot of plaudits for the job that he has done at Bayer Leverkusen. And there was believed to be interest in his signature from several clubs. But it looks like the Spanish manager will be staying on with the Bundesliga giants for another season, with his deal running till the summer of 2024.
