The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer saga has been going on for years and it looks like there are still a few twists and turns left in it. The future of the Frenchman is currently up in the air, as he has made it clear that he does not intend to extend his current deal with PSG, which runs till the summer of 2024.

That has opened the door to a move away from the French capital this summer. PSG are rumoured to be looking to part ways with Mbappe now, rather than see him walk out as a free agent a year later.

Some rumours have even suggested that they have agreed a deal with Real Madrid. Whether that is accurate or not remains to be seen. There is one problem still to be solved though. And that is the fact that the ball ultimately will be in Mbappe’s court.

As reported by MARCA, Mbappe is determined to fulfil the second season of the contract that he signed with PSG. That would mean collecting his annual salary of €60 million, along with a loyalty bonus of €90 million. A total of €150 million. After that, his plan involves negotiating a transfer bonus of around €100 million to €125 million as compensation for arriving at Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Thus, it looks like Mbappe arriving at Real Madrid this summer is unlikely to happen. There are just way too many hurdles in the deal.

And in the long run, it might be better for the club as well, although it could hurt their 2023/24 season. If Mbappe does not arrive, it would be interesting to see if they go out and sign a world-class striker to replace Karim Benzema up top.

Ultimately, it is quite clear that the Mbappe saga is far from over. His ultimate destination seems to be Real Madrid though.
