Real Madrid have been lacking in depth for some time now. Combine that with their injury issues and one would have expected the academy players to get a lot more chances than they did last season. And it could ultimately lead to some of the club’s most highly-rated youth stars to head out in the summer.
One player who has done extremely well at Castilla level over the years is Rafa Marin. He has been a rock at the back for them.
Yet, that has not converted to appearances for the senior team. It is almost unbelievable that at 21 years of age, Marin still has not made his debut for Real Madrid. And it might not come at all.
As reported by AS, Marin is on the radar of English, German and Belgian clubs. And the difficulty of breaking into the first-team picture will most likely cause him to leave this summer.
Real Madrid defender could be leaving this summer
Someone like Marin leaving the club would be a blow for Real Madrid for sure. But at the same time, it is not hard to see why that might be the most logical step for him. It is hard to see him getting too many minutes in Carlo Ancelotti’s side next season either.
Marin’s current deal with Real Madrid is set to run out in the summer of 2024. As a result, if he does head out in this window, then the club will get a fee out of his exit.
Let’s see what the future holds for Marin. He has been linked with plenty of clubs in recent times though, including top ones like Chelsea. Thus, if the Spanish defender does indeed depart Real Madrid this summer then there is not expected to be any lack of interest in his signature.
