Real Madrid has seen a number of legends depart Santiago Bernabeu in recent seasons, as the club braces for the new generation. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema, Marcelo and many more have headed out after extremely successful careers in the Royal White jersey.

This summer has seen the departure of Benzema, the last remaining player at the club from the legendary summer transfer window of 2009. The Frenchman’s exit pretty much signals the start of the new generation of Real Madrid’s forward line lead by Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo.

The club has already confirmed that an agreement has been reached over an extension with Toni Kroos. And despite speculation over his future, Luka Modric will be staying on too.

As reported by the club’s official website, Real Madrid and Modric have agreed to extend the player’s contract. It will see him contracted to the club until 30 June 2024.

The 37-year old Croatian has been a cornerstone of Real Madrid’s midfield since his arrival in 2012. And Modric has decided to stay in the Spanish capital, despite there being strong and lucrative interest from foreign leagues.

It is rumoured the Modric received a huge offer to leave Real Madrid this summer. However, the Croatian has chosen to extend his stay at Santiago Bernabeu instead.

Modric has done it all at Real Madrid, winning every possible trophy multiple times over, and even got himself a Ballon d’Or. And it does feel like the upcoming season could be his last at the club.

With both Kroos and Modric agreeing extensions, Los Blancos at least have a part of the Old Guard still at the club to oversee the transition. They are both expected to see reduced minutes next season. But their experience and guidance could prove to be invaluable for the youngsters.
