Real Madrid do not have much depth in their squad right now. Despite that, it looks like a few could be headed for the exit door this summer. We already saw Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz depart at the end of the previous campaign. There are a few more whose futures at Santiago Bernabeu are uncertain though and it would not be a surprise to see them leave.
One player who falls under that category is Alvaro Odriozola. The Spanish right-back came in huge expectations in the summer of 2018 from Real Sociedad for a €35 million transfer package.
Things have not gone his way since joining Real Madrid though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 49 appearances for the club till now.
Odriozola has spent a couple of seasons out on loan as well, at Bayern Munich and Fiorentina. The Spaniard does not look to be a major part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans at the moment and could be on his way out for good this summer.
€35 million Real Madrid player close to leaving this summer
As reported by MARCA, Odriozola is close to making a return to Real Sociedad. Real Madrid will respect his decision, knowing that his sporting future at Santiago Bernabeu seems complicated.
Odriozola’s current deal with Real Madrid is believed to run until the summer of 2024. Thus, him leaving in the upcoming transfer window makes sense for all parties involved.
Odriozola has never found his footing since arriving at Real Madrid and has simply not played enough football over the past five years. Now 27 years of age, he cannot afford to sit on the bench every week.
There is believed to be interest from Italian clubs in signing Odriozola as well. But it looks like he will stay in Spain by returning to his former club, Real Sociedad.
