Barcelona clinched the La Liga title last season while Real Madrid got their hands on the Copa del Rey, getting the better of the Catalan giants in the semi-finals along the way. Thus, things are tight between the two teams right now and there is expected to be a title race in the upcoming season.

For that though, Real Madrid will need to strengthen in the summer. They have seen Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz leave. On the other hand, Jude Bellingham, Joselu and Fran Garcia have been brought in while Brahim Diaz will be like a new signing as well after having spent the previous three seasons on loan at AC Milan.

One common transfer target that Real Madrid and Barcelona appear to have at this point of time is Arda Guler. He is believed to have a release clause of around €17.5 million in his current deal with Fenerbahce, which could prove to be a bargain in the long run.

It looks like the Catalan giants have taken a step close to signing the ‘Turkish Messi’ though. As reported by Gerard Romero (via Tribuna), Deco has reached an agreement in principle with Guler.

Guler is a superb talent without doubt. He has already made over 50 appearances for Fenerbahce and represented the Turkey national team on a few occasions as well, despite the fact that he turned 18 years of age in February.

If he can reach his potential, then Guler can be one of the best players in Europe. And it is almost a no-brainer for clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona to try and activate his release clause.

At the moment, Barcelona look like the ones in pole position to sign Guler. Let’s see if they can get a deal over the line.
