Mauricio Pochettino is a manager who has been linked with the Real Madrid job on numerous occasions over the years but a move to Santiago Bernabeu has never transpired. After leaving Tottenham Hotspur, the Argentine would join PSG and now, he finds himself in the Chelsea hot seat.

Pochettino has a tough task on his hands. Chelsea are coming off of their worst season of this century.

The Blues have seen several of their experienced players depart the club this summer as well. Thus, a bit of a rebuild is needed at Stamford Bridge. Especially in the middle of the park. And it looks like Pochettino has set his sights on one of Real Madrid’s midfielders.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Pochettino is a huge admirer of Federico Valverde. The Argentina wants Chelsea to sign the Real Madrid midfielder.

Valverde had an interesting 2022/23 campaign to say the very least. He added goals to his game and was playing like one of the best midfielders in the world in the early months of the season.

But his form would fade away as the season progressed, especially in the second half of the campaign. He did show his incredible potential but at the same time, it became clear that the Uruguayan international needs to be more consistent.

There has been no lack of interest in his signature this summer though. And he is believed to be rated at a transfer fee north of €100 million.

In the past, Real Madrid are believed to have knocked back significant offers for Valverde. But with the club signing Jude Bellingham this summer, it would be interesting to see whether Los Blancos are now more open to the prospect of the Uruguayan midfielder leaving.
