Kylian Mbappe’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain is up in the air right now and Real Madrid will surely be keeping a close eye on the situation. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu for years but it has never transpired. Could that change in this summer transfer window?

Mbappe does not want to extend his current deal with PSG, which runs until the summer of 2024. That, of course, puts the Ligue 1 champions in a difficult situation.

They have to either transfer Mbappe this summer or see him walk out as a free agent, unless they can somehow find a way to agree a new deal. And it appears that PSG have come to a firm decision regarding the entire situation.

As reported by L’Equipe (via GOAL), PSG have told Mbappe to extend his contract by the end of this month or they will put him up for transfer. The Ligue 1 champions do not want the Frenchman to leave as a free agent.

PSG make Mbappe decision amid Real Madrid links

PSG have already lost Lionel Messi as a free agent this summer while the future of Neymar is up in the air as well. Thus, it is not hard to see why they would not be keen to see Mbappe walk out for nothing a year later.

Not only would that mean missing out on a huge transfer fee, but the club would have to make a significant investment to replace the Frenchman as well. Of course, parting ways with Mbappe might not be as simple.

It will take a huge transfer fee to sign Mbappe and on top of that, the player will look for a significant salary as well. Thus, it would make sense for a club like Real Madrid to wait a year and try to bring him in as a free agent, if the opportunity is still there.
