Real Madrid have made it a habit to sign some of the most highly-rated young talents around the world. Just this summer, they have brought in Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in a blockbuster move. They have also signed Arda Guler, who has been dubbed as the ‘Turkish Messi’. And it was not too long ago, that they agreed a deal with Palmeiras for Endrick, who has earned comparisons with Ronaldo Nazario.
Thus, Real Madrid are clearly building a team for both now and the future. And another player that they have been linked with is Josko Gvardiol.
The Croatian international was arguably the best defender at the World Cup last year. And he is considered by many as the best young centre-back in the game right now.
Thus, it is not hard to understand why Real Madrid might hold an interest in Gvardiol but a transfer to Santiago Bernabeu feels unlikely in this window. On the other hand, it looks like the Croatian is eyeing a move to Manchester City this summer.
€100 million Real Madrid target wants to join Manchester City
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Gvardiol has already said that he wants to go to Manchester City. RB Leipzig want a transfer fee of at least €100 million. The two clubs are still working on a deal.
More often than not, when Manchester City want to sign a player, they end up getting him. And having already failed in a push for Declan Rice, they will not want to have another failed transfer pursuit this summer.
Let’s see how things play out but it feels like Gvardiol might be headed to Manchester City. Someone like him could have been perfect for Real Madrid, who have an aging group of centre-backs. Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Nacho are all past their 30th birthdays.
